Australia’s bowlers dominated the Powerplay. Jofra Archer removed both Salt and Jacob Bethell within four overs – Salt caught edging to first slip and the latter being bowled by Zampa.
England’s experimental batting line-up recovered after the drinks break with Liam Livingstone scoring an unbeaten 62 off 27 balls – taking him past his maiden one-day intentional fifty against Australia and into double figures for one-day internationals.
ODI Scorecard
England battled hard on an unpredictable Lord’s pitch to keep within striking distance of their target when rain interrupted play just four overs from completion of 20-over period. After opener Phil Salt spooned a leading edge towards midwicket for a golden duck and Ben Duckett’s thick outside edge flew towards point quickly in quick succession, they still held strong chances against Australia as Marsh and Marnus Labuschagne combined for an outstanding 59-run seventh wicket stand that helped Australia remain in control through excellent shot selection by their batters.
Starc (2-63) again caused havoc for England, reducing them to 3-51 by the third over. Josh Hazlewood (2-56) added another wicket at this same stage, further disrupting their run chase efforts, with Smith and Short becoming two more batsmen to fall short of reaching DLS par score.
Liam Livingstone led England to a three-wicket win at Sophia Gardens, levelling their five-match series 2-1 with his remarkable 87 from 47 balls as England secured the highest successful run chase at this Welsh venue since 2009. Livingstone’s performance marked an emphatic farewell to an ODI series that began with heavy defeat at Nottingham and ended with triumphant performances by England at Cardiff and Sophia Gardens; England had not defeated Australia since 2009 at Sophia Gardens! England currently lead this five-match series 2-1.
T20I Scorecard
At Sophia Gardens, Australia batted first on an engaging pitch offering early movement. Travis Head’s impressive form continued from their opening ODI match against New Zealand; reaching 50 T20I boundaries within 29 balls before top-edging one against tweaker Livingstone towards long-on. All-rounder Marcus Stoinis fell soon afterwards, misfiring against left-arm spinner Sam Curran’s left-arm spin and departing after just 42 balls played.
Tim David then raced through a fifty in just 24 deliveries – his fastest T20I fifty ever – off just 57 balls, striking four off Jofra Archer and Jofra Archer short balls, before edging one from Jofra Archer over backward square leg for four runs. However, David, who boasts one of the second-highest strike rates since 2024 began T20Is started, was soon out after hitting wide of Josh Hazlewood’s straight delivery and caught at mid-wicket after swinging wide from an archer short ball over backward square leg off Jofra Archer short delivery from Jofra Archer against Josh Hazlewood’s straight delivery and being caught mid-wicket after making 51 runs from 24 deliveries.
Australia rebounded after their initial setback. Opener Matt Short unleashed a stunning drive through extra cover for four before top-edging a pull off Curran into the stands, before Nathan Lyon made an important breakthrough by hitting six off an outswinging short ball from Hazlewood for six in his third over.
With rain forecast, Australia need only win to secure their place in the finals of this tournament. But England are showing they possess both tenacity and adaptability that helped them overcome South Africa in their opening match of this series.
Test Scorecard
Lord’s was an unpredictable venue for England, as they lost two early wickets before recovering with an excellent 84-run partnership between Brydon Carse and Travis Head giving hope of an unlikely win.
England’s run chase began slowly after Will Jacks misfired with an opening delivery towards square leg boundary rider Jack Short and was caught for 12. However Jordan Cox missed an opportunity for review against Hazlewood when his pull shot seemed destined for short third man and failed to take advantage of an internal review against Hazlewood when it appeared his shot was going straight there.
Short then hit consecutive short balls for four through the covers and six over midwicket off Olly Stone’s second over, as well as another five from Olly’s third – before trying unsuccessfully to hoick Potts over long off and being denied by umpires for another six over midwicket.
England will hope for a fresher pitch now that the rain has stopped as they try to defend a slim lead and avoid an innings defeat. New-look England have shown plenty of adaptability and resilience on this difficult pitch; but more work needs to be done if they wish to close the gap on Australia at the top of world rankings.

Match Report
A good match report should be informative yet entertaining, written in short sentences that focus on key events rather than providing ball-by-ball analysis. A regular publication promoted via social media can attract new fans while professional photography often helps engage viewers and should be included as part of your article.
Australia’s quicks struck early against England, striking two blows that sent shockwaves through their ranks. Jofra Archer and Hazlewood both took two wickets each in their initial overs, with Jofra dismissing Will Jacks (12) trying to hit an outswinger past point while Hazlewood struck Jacob Bethell (23) out for 23 with an accurate short delivery which hit him square on the neck.
England’s new-look top order mounted an aggressive counterattack that saved their innings, with Skipper Marsh (60 from 47 balls) and Marnus Labuschagne combining for an outstanding 113-run partnership that gave their hosts a realistic chance at victory.
